Do thank you's need to be handwritten, or can they be an e-mail?

Thank you notes should always be sent within 24 hours of an interview, a network meeting or a phone/video. You may follow up with a handwritten note, but it is not necessary. Why an e-mail? Because a hiring team may huddle after a round of meetings and they must have your thank you note as a differentiator from other candidates.
